Device Setup Checklist:

WHILE ON CAMPUS

  • Connect to JAYHAWK Wi-Fi

ANYTIME

  • Connect your OneDrive for Business file storage
  • Download Blackboard and Microsoft Office
  • Add your KU email account
  • Get additional apps – mobileplaza.ku.edu

Wi-Fi

Connect to Jayhawk Wi-Fi Network:

  1. When on campus, open Settings on the device.
  2. Select Wireless Settings.
  3. Ensure that Wi-Fi is turned on.
  4. If necessary, disconnect from any KU Network profiles (i.e. KUGUEST) by tapping and holding the network name. Select Forget network.
  5. Select the JAYHAWK network. [View screenshot]
  6. Ensure EAP Method is set to PEAP.
  7. Ensure the Phase 2 authentication is set to None.
  8. Under CA certificate, select Do not validate.
    Note:  Steps 7 and 8 are only necessary if your device is running Android 7.X.X.
  9. In the Domain field, enter ku.edu.
  10. In the Identity field, enter your KU Online ID.
  11. In the Password field, enter your KU Online password.
  12. Select the Connect button.

OneDrive for Business

Use for File Storage:

  1. Download Microsoft OneDrive from the Google Play Store.​ [View screenshot]
  2. Open the OneDrive app and select Sign in.
  3. Type your primary KU email address.
  4. Sign in with your KU Online ID and Password.

Install Blackboard App

  1. Download Blackboard from the Google Play Store.
  2. Open the Blackboard app. If necessary, Allow Blackboard to access photos, media, and files on your device.
  3. Enter University of Kansas as your school’s name.
  4. Enter your KU Online ID and Password and select Log In. If necessary, select Agree on the Blackboard Terms of Use.

The Blackboard mobile app can be used to see course announcements or get alerts when grades have posted. To submit assignments, view course reading materials, and complete any other graded work, you will want to use the full website, courseware.ku.edu.

Install Microsoft Office Apps

  1. Download Microsoft Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote) from the Google Play Store.
  2. Open the Office app (i.e. Word) and type your primary KU email address. Select the arrow to advance.
  3. Sign in with your KU Online ID and Password.
  4. Select Start using Word button.

Note: If you have other Office apps installed on your Android device, your account and OneDrive files will be automatically added.

Configure KU Email (Android via Gmail)

  1. Open Settings from your home screen.
  2. Select Accounts & Sync (Or Cloud and Accounts or the equivalent on your device).
  3. Select (Add) Account(s).
  4. Select Exchange (with the Gmail icon next to it).
  5. Type your primary KU email address, not an alias. Select Manual Setup to continue. If necessary, select Exchange as the type of account. ​ [View screenshot]
  6. Type your KU Online ID password and select Next.
  7. Enter the following information and then select Next:
    1. Domain: type home\your KU Online ID with no spaces)
    2. Password: populated from the previous page
    3. Exchange server: type mail.ku.edu
    4. Select OK on the Remote security administration popup message.  [View screenshot]
  8. The Device Administrator will show what operations Gmail will be allowed to perform. Select Activate.
  9. Customize your Account Name (optional) and select Next to complete setup.

Tip: The above directions show how to set up your email using the Gmail app. You can find alternative directions on how to connect your email with your Android device at knowledgebase.ku.edu.
